A four-part poem 0-3 in Hebrew. Its name in hebrew has two meanings: “We Are Setts” (underground network of tunnels and burrows) and “We Are Forgiveness”.

The poem starts with a family elegy, part one. Parts two three four form a sort of a prophetic–epic manifest.

I completed the first draft just before starting my studies in the School of Visual Theatre (2017-2021). It was 115 pages long. I then asked David Neo Buhbut to edit it. Four more years of work followed. From that 115-page draft, only one line remained in the final version: “to discover something like a phenomenon”.

This work was fed by remnants. Disappointments and hallucinations. It was written and rewritten throughout, in a boundless collaboration with an editor who became a brother by choice. Esther Peled generously provided an ongoing incisive anchor preventing the poem from collapsing into pure idiosyncrasy. Up to a point where the poem condensed into a form that serves nothing but itself.

A Call to a Reader

FINALE (Graduation Final Project)
The School of Visual Theater

plywood, pure linen, paper pile, book, a room

What is a public setting for handing over instances of “We Are Setts” (אנו מחילות) to readers for reading. I am still not sure but a couple of month after its print (june 2021) I have reluctantly installed a temporary setting and called readers into it as my graduation work in The School of Visual Theatre.

The setting had to be soft and bright and clean and functional and nothing more. To enter the room the reader had to pass through a two wing shroud. Because for me this was an end. The end of reckless experiment that lasted four years during which “We Are Setts” was forming to its end. Coming to terms with the magic and limitation of my mother’s tongue Hebrew.

So I have built humble sittings. And I painted the walls bright white. And I have set the lights temperature to 6500K so they too bright. And I have hung the shrouds to softly tell you what is in and what is out. And to myself I have left a peeping hole to look at the you while you were reading.
